Spirit Week 2019

Another Lusher Spirit Week is on the books, but this one brought a new level of spirit to the weeklong Lusher celebration.  The week began with Pajama Day for the high school, followed by Western Day, Wear Pink Day, Cartoon Character Day, and Class Theme Day.  In the middle school, Pajama Day was followed by Dressy Dress Up Day, Twin Day, Dynamic Duo Day, and Team Themes.  Willow Street had Pajama Day, followed by Wacky Tacky Day, and Blue and Yellow Day.

Wacky Olympics was added to the schedule this year on Wednesday night of the week.

During Friday’s pep rally on the Freret Campus, for which both middle and high school were present, the cheerleaders performed to start off the Class Spirit Competition.  As usual, the seniors won for their “Senior Night Live” theme, while the juniors came in second with their “Just Dance” theme.  “2000s” and “Fitness Freshmen” were the sophomore and freshmen themes, respectively.

At Willow Street, there was also a pep rally with high school cheerleaders at Morning Meeting.  “The Willow students loved showing our school spirit and seeing all of the athletes!” Kindergarten teacher Ms. Williamson said.

During the week’s grand finale homecoming football game, which the Lions won by one point, Maia Stewart and Kaleb Melson were crowned the 2019 Homecoming Queen and King.

“It felt surreal being crowned queen,” Stewart said.  “As soon as my name was announced, I couldn't keep from smiling, and I believe I smiled all the way through the rest of the night. I was very happy and proud of Kaleb and myself.”

The subsequent Homecoming Dance took place at the World War II Museum.
