When the parents of second-grader Max and fifth-grader Marley Mahony won the bid at Lusher soiree to have their children be principal for a day, Willow Street Principal Janis Rice turned her job over to the students for a designated day, beginning with morning meeting, Ms. Rice says, “Lusher Soiree is very successful not only in raising a nice dollar amount, but it’s also a wonderful experience for families.”

The new principals’ day was filled with a behind-the-scenes tour, a fire drill, Kindergarten lunch duty, and mail delivery. Max and Marley got to walk around the entire school and were surprised at how much students don’t see.

Max was most excited by being able to go to the attic, where they discussed ghost rumors picked up from the Lusher Letter.   The two rejoined their classmates at lunch and recess from 11:30 to 1:30, when they took the opportunity to tell their classmates about their day.

At the end of the day, there was a debrief with Ms. Rice at which they discussed the experience.  Even though both students had fun, they described their day as “a lot of work” and “so many emails.” Marley said, “It was the most interesting day I ever had at school. I saw different things other than my classroom. It was a great experience that I won’t forget and a lot of fun.”
